He’s Not Your Father And Other Things I Learned During The Pandemic originally exhibited in 2022 at The Witching Post. This painting series documents Whitney Lofrano’s experience learning at 42 that she was donor-conceived, a secret her mother had kept since her 1977 conception via sperm donation. In the show deck, each work is paired with the personal narrative behind it, creating an illustrated account of late discovery that moves from the initial phone call through grief, disorientation, curiosity about genetic relatives, and ultimately gratitude. The paintings are made using a dotting technique traditionally used to tell stories of heritage and ancestry she learned from Indigenous artists during studio tours in Northern Australia.
